JORDAN SUZUKI'S SHANE MYERS GOES HOME!!!
Here's a note posted from Shane's lovely wife, Lisa!
Day +16 - Free at last!!!! Shane got out about 2:00 p.m. today. We are so happy! After being inside for 3 weeks and 2 days, Shane just wanted to sit outside in the backyard for a while. It is so good to have him home. A home health nurse will be over tomorrow as he still needs to receive meds through the IV. I also had to get his 8 prescriptions filled! Thank goodness for insurance paying some of the prescriptions, because they are expensive! Now for Shane to be careful to avoid infections - he is immunosurpressed. And to avoid graft versus host disesae. He is on plenty of medications for all of this, so we will keep our fingers crossed that the next 85 days or so are uneventful. He goes to the hospital on Saturday for bloodwork and then again on Monday for bloodwork and to see the doctor. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers. It's so good to have my honey home!!! Love, Lisa
All the best to you and your family Shane!!!!

UPDATE ON JORDAN SUZUKI'S SHANE MYERS
Day +10!!! White count is 300 this morning!!! Making progress!!! Doctors had been saying counts would probably not come back until Day 14ish so they are encouraged that things are progressing better than normal. There is a chance that they could drop again but, its good that they are starting to come back. Had a fever of 102 last night and am getting IV anti-biotics right now - temp is back to normal this morning. They drew blood for cultures to pinpiont cause of infection and target that and knock it out. I'm actually kind of glad I've had the infection and weakness - up until now it's kind of seemed like a easy ride and somewhat concerned that anything was actually happening and I'm more confident than ever that I've got this BEAT.

Thanks again for all the support you guys have been amazing!!

Keep it going forward Shane!!!!!

The entire Jordan family wishes Shane best wishes and much love during his road to recovery!

From Shane's Website:

I was diagnosed in November 2003 with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. I began treatment with Gleevec. When Gleevec no longer worked (April 2005) I entered a drug trial of BMS at University of Chicago. With the exception of some fairly minor side effects (joint pain and fatigue) I had a complete hemotological response and partial cytogenic response. In January of 2007, after several dosage changes, it was discovered that I was no longer responding to BMS and statred to lose my hemotological response and cytogenics were getting worse as well. On April 1, 2007 - Lisa & I went to MD Anderson in Houston Texas to research other options (including other trials or transplant) with Dr. Jorge Cortes. Dr. Cortes suggested entering a trial of AMN-107 stating that he had had patients that responded to AMN even after failing BMS. In May 2007 I began the trial of AMN-107 at University of Chicago. This had the same results as BMS without the side effects - I felt better than ever since diagnosis. Unfortunately, the AMN never gave me a cytogenic response and I struggled with tolerated and effective dosage due to Liver function being affected by an effective dose. Prior to starting this treatment I made the decision that if the AMN did not work I would pursue the transplant option.

A bone marrow transplant is scheduled at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI on September 18, 2007. I will be entering the hospital on Sept. 11, 2007 for a week of Chemo & Immuno Suppretion therapy prior to the transplant on the 18th.

Thanks for visiting - Be sure to read the latest in the journal, view the photo gallery, and drop us a line in the guestbook. We appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers!
